Chogo Lungma to the Golden Peak: The Ultimate Spantik Expedition Itinerary (7,027m)
Climbing a 7,000m peak in the Karakoram is the definitive “proving ground” for mountaineers eyeing 8,000m giants like K2 or Everest. Spantik, also known as the Golden Peak, offers a classic high-altitude challenge via the Southeast Ridge.
This 31-day itinerary is designed for optimal acclimatization, traversing the prehistoric Chogo Lungma Glacier before launching a high-altitude push for the summit.
Phase 1: The Gateway to the Karakoram
Day 1: Arrival in Islamabad (The Staging Point). Welcome to Pakistan. Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, our team transfers you to the group hotel. Islamabad is a purpose-built capital with modern amenities and lush greenery.
- Activity: Evening gear check and expedition briefing.

Day 2: The Flight of a Lifetime – Islamabad to Skardu (2,230m) We take the legendary 45-minute flight to Skardu. This is your first “aerial reconnaissance” of the Himalayas and Karakoram.
- AI Fact: Keep your camera ready on the right side of the aircraft to spot Nanga Parbat (8,126m) and, on clear days, the distant crown of K2.
- Contingency: If weather grounds the flight, we begin a scenic 2-day drive via the Karakoram Highway (KKH).
Day 3: Acclimatization & Culture in Skardu. A vital rest day to let your body adjust to 2,000m+. We hike to the 17th-century Kharpocho Fort for a panoramic view of the Indus River. We also visit the Manthal Lord Buddha Rock, an 8th-century relic showcasing the region’s pre-Islamic Buddhist heritage.
Phase 2: Into the Wild – The Approach Trek
Day 4: Skardu to Arandu (2,950m) | The Jeep Safari A 7-hour rugged jeep journey takes us to Arandu, the final outpost of civilization. We pass through Chu Tron, known for its therapeutic sulfur hot springs. Arandu sits at the snout of the Chogo Lungma Glacier, surrounded by walnut groves.
Day 5: Trek to Bukhum (6 Hours) The trek begins. We follow the Basha River before stepping onto the Chogo Lungma Glacier. We navigate the northern lateral moraine to reach Bukhum, a summer pasture used by local shepherds.
Day 6: The First Glimpse of Spantik – Trek to Khurumal As we trek toward Khurumal, the “Golden Peak” reveals itself—a massive marble and gneiss pyramid. The trail is a mix of glacial moraine and high-altitude meadows.
Day 7: Bolucho – Base of the Glacier (3,900m) A shorter day to preserve energy. We trek past the Gharincho summer settlement and a pristine alpine lake. We camp at Bolucho, strategically positioned at the base of the Bolucho Glacier with spectacular views of Laila Peak.
Day 8: Arrival at Spantik Base Camp (4,300m) Note: While your original text said 3,760m, Spantik BC is traditionally higher for proper staging. A steady ascent brings us to our “home” for the next two weeks. Base camp is on a stable lateral moraine, offering a haven from the technical climbing ahead.
Phase 3: The Vertical Objective
Days 9–24: The Climbing Window (Acclimatization & Summit Push) The ascent of Spantik (7,027m) is a non-guided technical period, supported by our elite base camp staff.
- The Rotation: You will establish three high camps. Camp 1 (5,100m), Camp 2 (5,500m), and Camp 3 (6,200m) on the plateau.
- The Summit: The final push involves navigating the long, snow-covered ridge. The reward is a 360-degree view of the Rakaposhi-Haramosh Range.

Day 29–31: Skardu to Islamabad & Departure. We fly back to Islamabad for a final celebratory dinner. A contingency day is built into the schedule to account for the Karakoram’s unpredictable weather.

Logistics & Transport
- Domestic Travel: Round-trip Islamabad–Skardu flights, with road transport via Chilas or Besham if flights are canceled.
- Ground Operations: All airport transfers and 4×4 Jeep transport between Skardu and Askole or Hushe.
- Luggage Allowance: 75 kg each way inward; 50 kg per person return.
Accommodation & Base Camp Infrastructure
- City Stays: Stay 3 nights in Islamabad (air-conditioned rooms) and 3 nights in Skardu (Bed & Breakfast).
